Morris 8 simply deliver great song writing and top class musicianship.

Morris 8 are a long distance band, in that two of its members are from Toronto and the third from Brisbane. They have been accomplishing their crafts of song-writing and recording for on 14 years now with the occasional trans-Pacific trek to perform together either on the east coast of Australia or the metropolis of Greater Toronto. The physical divide is not the only distance that unifies this band, but the breadth of their contrasting musical influences as well; from folk to electronica, reggae, alternative rock and RnB.

Musically, Morris 8 songs are expertly crafted, with catchy hooks, beats, and melodies that are downright refreshing and exciting to hear. Each song is guitar-based, and generously filled-out with layers of strums, riffs and rhythms. With each play these songs uncover more and more of their treasures; utterly modern yet deferring knowingly to the past. Though energetic and vibrant, Morris 8 songs are never aggressive but bathed in elegant complexity and a beautiful mixture of instrumental subtlety.

Most recently Morris 8 have released their single “Captivated” which represents the cutting edge of avant-garde pop music. Here Morris 8 shift gears towards an easier-listening soulful indie vibe where the band crafts a lush, airy and ethereal sound. The song is awash in sophisticated jangly guitars and longing acoustic guitar interludes while the vocals broodingly sing seductively, supported by honey and silk harmonies.

Even though the song is textured and layered, it is never bogged down. Both a declaration of devotion and dreaminess, Morris 8 carves out an elegant and inspired song, which is nuanced and incredibly subtle; the hooks masterful and the instrumental interplay understated.

John MacRae, Ben Aitchison and Robert Blanchet have an overall sound that is lush but alive, glossy but with a vital pulse. Lyrically their songs are evocative and atmospheric. Their compositions are all worked into perfection and yet the feel is still warm and inviting; something close to a miracle of studio alchemy, considering the distances between them.
