The Australian artist approaches music from a limitless perspective.
Since first launching himself into the music scene back in 2006 – D-SAN, aka S.M.C., has been a constant force in music and inspiration to the scene. Officially the pioneer of what is now known worldwide as “Sunny Coast Music;” this rapper/producer is well known throughout Australia as the man responsible for these G-Funk/South Beats being twisted & flipped into an Aussie-script.
Forming a tight bond with a Japanese Hip-Hop label known as RSE, D-SAN was featured upon multiple recordings between 2010-2013 two of which on Major Labels. As he continued to develop and refine his style he eventually made another huge move in his career by joining forces with S.M.C. Music Group inc , in the late part of 2013.
As 2014 carried on, the co-existence between D-SAN and the S.M.C Music Group has proven to be a completely successful one. On Jan 01 2015 D-SAN officially drops his 2nd highly-anticipated MIX TAPE, titled “Sunny Side Up” which will give the world another sample of the Sunny Coast vibe.
We recently received a preview copy of the mixtape to sample the flavor of D_SAN’s Sunny Coast Vibe. D_SAN’s is instantly recognizable and that’s not just because of his Aussie accent. Whether he’s rapping or producing, the Australian artist approaches music from a limitless perspective. He can go hard over a verse with the best of them, but he can also craft an anthemic beat from behind the board. As soon as you hear “Sunny Side Up”, you’ll know its D_SAN.
This is one of those mixtapes that you can just let run from start to finish, repeat, start to finish, then repeat a few more times. How many artists in rap music have redefined the sound of hip-hop? D-SAN’s latest 15-track effort is not only a stunning album; it is an amazing affirmation of his talent, especially considering he is not from the West Coast, nor The East Coast, or even the Midlands. This dude is from Down Under! But he is surely on his way up after this release!
The beats here, are all, without exception, wonderfully catchy and brilliantly composed. D-SAN moves beyond the standard West Coast sound (probably due to the Aussie influence) but the elegance, funkiness, joyfulness and sheer class comes shining through.
Standout examples of this sound and vibe can be heard on “Sick & Tired” ft. Mantist and El Merrow, “It Don’t Matter”, “West Side Baby”, “Put It Up On Tha Wesside” ft. Talkbox PeeWee and DJ K.I.P., “We Global”, “I Love Noosa”, “Round 2” and “For My City”.
“Sunny Side Up”, is in one word, awesome. I rarely come upon a mixtape that I enjoy from the first listen and just keep playing over and over again. But this mixtape definitely does that.
If you’re looking to move away from the doomsday, gangsta, low-talent, filler song, no substance emcees that seem to dominate the hiphop game today, discover the sunny side of Rap. D-SAN shows no mercy in making those wannabe ‘street-cred’ seeking rappers, look downright stupid. I forgot just how much fun rap music could be until I heard “Sunny Side Up”. Another plus is that there is no lack of talent coming from the supporting cast on this mixtape either!
