Japa Dollar has been responsible for a large quantity of irresistible electro-pop, R&B, and urban dance confections for some years now, including, his previous single, “100%”. Japa Dollar is a music producer/artist from London. He’s worked with many artists from the UK and USA. His work has featured on television and radio many times. Japa Dollar has released various albums and singles, available in stores and on download from iTunes, Amazon, Napster and all major digital outlets.
Japa Dollar has now dropped his latest single, HAKUNA MATATA featuring Ellion King & Artshan Lee. Japa Dollar’s smooth, calming voice against a background of driving beats and African instrumental timbres make this track joyous listening. African-based music is diverse and rich, and Japa Dollar is among its many Ugandan stars.
Japa Dollar is an undisputed master when it comes to mixing modern electro-pop with his African music. As a contemporary performer he has often captured the essence of classical instrumental and musical influences of the African people alongside an undeniably accessible sensibility for Western melodic structure. On HAKUNA MATATA he sticks to his African roots and comes out with a winner!
What separates Japa Dollar’s music from more traditional offerings is the finesse of the arrangements (from a western musical perspective) which sacrifices none of the dynamic and rhythmic force of traditional African music but yet also enables a wonderfully coherent and supple melodic structure to emerge from the music.
I can’t say enough about this wonderful recording. I buy a lot of African music, but HAKUNA MATATA really stands out. It’s very contemporary and accessible, but thoroughly African; outstanding, with understated musicianship throughout and excellent support from Ellion King and Artshan Lee. I can’t understand the lyrics but the music and Japa Dollar’s voice carry me off somewhere to another place and time.
