Warren Skane aka SkaneTrain is an independent artist from Perth, Western Australia, who’s been writing lyrics since 1996. He completed two Country-Rock albums – ‘Deep In Thought’ and ‘Deep In Thought Volume 2 plus an EP ‘The Early Years’ – from his ‘Work For Hire” agreement with Eastcraft in North Carolina, USA. Skane then discovered the Music Maker JAM app which allows users to create their own unique sound using Loops from their catalogue. This opened a new world for the Australian artist. He has now completed 12 electronically produced albums covering a wide range of genres, with flavors that go from Rock to Trap and Rap. Currently working towards getting his music into a Netflix Series or TV/Film, Warren Skane has dropped the 12 track album, entitled “Situs Inversus”.

On his latest album, Warren Skane proves that laying down a formula for a series of collective Hip-hop, Rap and Dance tracks is easy, but distinguishing such rhythmic consistency requires a confident mixture of virtuosic precision and raw enthusiasm. At its surface, “Situs Inversus” appears to be pretty straightforward.

The song titles get directly to the point, no deeper exploration necessary: “Show Some Swagger”, “Givin’ Up On Love”, “It’s What I Do” and “Innovating”. Ordinary phrases are manipulated to fill a space fitted for grand poetry, while Warren Skane breaks these simple titles into two handfuls of musical jigsaw puzzle pieces.  Skane’s experimentation is never random, but absolutely precise.

The excitement that lies within these tracks is coated in thumping beats that pulse through both speakers, emboldening the songs beyond their electronics. The rapid footwork movements needed to shadow these beats may make Warren Skane’s music sound busy, but the smooth foundations introduce a sense of blissful ecstasy, while the sped-up rapping, on tracks like, “Like A Train”, “Dirty Work” and “SkaneTrain Lane”, equal pure exhilaration.

Built for either the club or creative workouts, Warren Shane’s edgy, thrilling urban-infused dance tracks excel in relentless movement and speed, but also deep grooves, as can be witnessed on “Trapped”. Skane also excels on the slower, eclectic instrumental ballad, “Tranquil”, which is awash with warmth and melody. He manages to craft a track far beyond the sum of its parts.

At the end of the day, Warren Skane has created an interesting fusion of three genres of music – with results ranging from spectacular to banging, and everything in between. Despite all of these different perspectives and musical abilities, Warren Skane manages to keep his singular vision in focus without getting lost in musical cul-de-sacs.

His sound design is sturdy but versatile: banging drums, throbbing basslines and angular synths that make everything bump. It’s no exaggeration to say that Warren Skane is steadily shaping his own hybrid electronic sound.

Following on from his previous releases, Skane’s ability to craft genre-bending and eclectic electronic music remains relevant and infectious. “Situs Inversus” is a great collection of dance-rap musical soundscapes that manage to be compelling in 12 different ways, as Warren Skane skillfully threads together disparate genres.
