Reggie Haith the founder and owner of Genesis7 Productions, LLC – a company devoted to curating original beats and music in the HipHop, Neo-Soul, RnB, and Contemporary Gospel tradition, is a modern day genius. Genius is a word often thrown around with wild abandon, and to be honest, everyone has genius within them. But not everyone, for some reason, manifests it. However Reggie with his over 20 years of experience in music, as a performer, DJ, composer, and producer, does just that.
Reggie Haith, a native of Chicago stands for taking great chances on different levels, for continuous hard work and for courage. He is a modern genius because he captures and represents the spirit of an Urban producer – better known in Hip-hop as a beat maker. What he does is so deep that he will influence a large amount of upcoming young artists. In an age when many of his peers and colleagues are still more interested in vanity, Reggie is more interested in exploration through music. And that is why he is a modern genius, in my book.
There is a depth and honesty in his music, in the way his beats meld together. His music is full of subtle organic things that most people aren’t even aware of – and maybe they shouldn’t have to be. They should just enjoy it. And what better way to do that than with the Genesis7 album, entitled “SOULiloquy”. The album is a kaleidoscope of musical tones and colors, where Reggie has brought in an array of talented Hip-Hop and Neo Soul artists to rhyme and sing on top of his soulful and groovy arrangements. The breadth and depth of his musical textures provides a canvas that are easily sketched and colored by these voices and harmonies.
The rhymes, melodies and harmonies supplied by the likes of Tonia Marie, Quote, K-Sera, Spike Rebel, Monique, Danielle, Jon Blaq, Jaysereh, Mike Milly, Verbal D, Soh Mehni and Rose Clark, all blend beautifully into the Genesis7 musical backdrops. The way Genesis7 composes his music indicates that he just loves the effect music can have on himself and on others. He is purely about expression, his tracks are generally filled with a variety of different elements and emotional content that seems to be showing how life is beautiful and how we need go for whatever it is that is in our hearts. It showcases the profound humanity and depth of heart which Reggie consistently operates with.
Bottom line: “SOULiloquy” forges an amazing production, superior rapping and singing, and most importantly – no time wasted. I seriously cannot think of any flaws that this album has. It’s a must for classic Hip-Hop and Neo Soul fans, you won’t be disappointed by how good this album is, or how easy it is to listen to. It has creative song concepts while displaying an unprecedented blend of Urban genres. Not only does Genesis7’s stellar beats grab you but his sound is extremely charismatic with a sincerity that is definitely missing from Hip Hop. With Genesis7’s debut full-length release, he establishes himself among Hip Hop’s greatest underground producers, of which I have only heard a handful in 2015.
I loved all of these songs so much that I desperately wanted to name some of my favorites, but on reflection, I declined the challenge. Each and every component performing on “SOULiloquy” has brought something special to the table. Selecting any one track would almost be an injustice to any other. On a technical and emotional level, these are all masterworks, and by the time you get to the closing 12th track, you’re already psyched to hear the first one over again. It really is that kind of an album. And that, ladies and gentleman, is why Reggie Haith aka Genesis7 is a modern day genius!
