Ifalade (Ocean Bleu) and Pink Dewberries have come out of the City of Angels to create and perform music that socially, politically and culturally ,means something and says something, focusing on empowerment for everyone. Together they have written and produced a catalog of songs with a hip hop flavor and neo-soul feel. Hot off the press, Ocean Bleu and Pink Dewberries have dropped “Hands Up Breathe”, produced by Sean Ross of Mach 1 for BBO beats.

Ocean Bleu and Pink Dewberries are a welcome blast of fresh air, because they are honest, multi-talented, inventive, and they do not look like the diva-girl template. Fact number one; they prove that female hip-hop performers do not need to be slim and fine nor absurdly thuggish. They just need to be real women! Fact number two; crass materialism undermines hip-hop’s power and focus, so on this track, we don’t get ridiculous, materialistic drivel in buckets, but focused, intelligent, and positive lyrics.

In addition, the duo’s videos are about the most visually engaging stuff around.

In a world with poseurs searching for street cred, it’s nice that we’ve got the likes of Ocean Bleu and Pink Dewberries to truly shake things up and make stuff happen. They spin the words, dazzle with rhymes and serve up pitch after pitch of catchy, soul grooving tunes. Yet each and every line contains a message of enlightenment. If you’re tired of the predictable braggadocio of bitches and ho’s. Hip-hop rarely gets better than this.

Ocean Bleu and Pink Dewberries’ dose of storytelling speaks as much to the mind as it does to the heart. Their rhymes on this track set about to encourage people not only to take more interest in their communities, but also help make them better places, for themselves and future generations; a somber, yet buoyant and inspiring song, with valuable lessons to be taken from it.

Ocean-Bleu-Pink-Dewberries-300Ocean Bleu and Pink Dewberries, together with their crew, are making music that has to actually be listened to, not just to focus on the beats or the cadence of the lyrics. They are trying to speak to people with music. What they provide in this track should be what plays on the radio waves. Unfortunately, it doesn’t.

Nevertheless, the duo lay down rhymes and verses that hit you in the heart and mind. They make you stop and consider the mainstream music and all the negative crap that is put on display nowadays. Pick up a copy and bump it while at home or on a commute somewhere. Then put your “Hands Up Breathe”, free your soul and make the world a better place!
