Liber Electro is an Indie band from Odessa, Ukraine, consisting of members:  Maksim Gorovenko (Keyboards), Vasilieva Liudmila (Vocals) and Vladimir Pavleshchiuk (Guitar). The band that was launched during 2013 is currently promoting their EP, “Liber Electro I”. This is well-written, melodic electronic music with no dissonant harshness or overwhelming bass line. The female vocalist has a powerful and ear-catching voice, the lyrics are better than the throwaway trash in too much popular music, and the track assortment and arrangement for this EP are very well done.

The fact that there is no ‘dissonant harshness’ or ‘overwhelming bass line’, doesn’t mean that Liber Electro don’t hit hard. On the contrary just listen to gut busting riffs and rhythms of “Equipose” and “Cabin Fever”, for proof of how hardcore they can be. It’s just that the band knows how to be powerful without being overwhelming.

So they forge a hard as steel sound but they wrap it up in lots melody to soften the edges of each song. “Boat” is a stunning high energy, ecstasy-producing arrangement, as it moves from growling guitar riffs to jazzy stabbing horns and a soaring chorus.  This track probably best showcases the all-round instrumental and vocal talents of this collective.

Every once in a while a band comes along that creates a completely new sound that redefines the direction of popular music, and maybe even ultimately the zeitgeist. This band does that, and does it damn well, considering that it even has an alternative retro flavor – which you can clearly hear on “Wabi – Sabi”, probably the catchiest track on the EP.

Liber Electro is an amazing band and their indie electronica sound captures the best parts of the 80s, 90s synth era and injects it with a modern flair. If you have always wondered why much electronic music as a genre tends to be overwhelmingly crap. However it is possible to do electronic music, in this case mixed with powerful guitars that has depth and integrity, and Liber Electro pull it off

They take the best of their influences, which includes Nine Inch Nails and the Chemical Brothers, and still manage to sound like an original take on the genre rather than simple copycats. There are tracks here that can easily get the dance floor moving, as well as comfortably fill your headphones as pure listening music.

The music is lyrically dense and catchy. There are no filler tacks; each is distinct from the rest of the EP. Each song is uniquely beautiful and improves with every listen, especially “Mirror” which grows on you more slowly, but in a stronger way, though I must say that my absolute favorite track for now is “Boat”.

“Liber Electro I” is an impressive EP filled with beautiful sounds, outstanding arrangements and that lovely voice by Vasilieva Liudmila. This EP is to dance and listen to…and admire with awe!
