Anthony Nelson and The Overcomers are a contemporary gospel and Christian group founded by songwriter, composer, producer and multi-instrument Anthony J. Nelson. Singing lead vocal on “Broken”, is Lynn Burnett. Lynn has such a powerful voice, and honestly I’m a little inspired by the fact that she doesn’t have to “showboat” to deliver an impacting single or a moving worship to the Lord. She keeps the focus in the right place and I think that’s the sign of a mature worshiper. But apart from the voice which is as beautiful as they come. The musical and vocal harmony arrangements are creative and well done too.

This musical composition is a stand out amongst a vast sea of mediocrity and cheap gimmicks prevalent in today’s gospel music milieu. Anthony Nelson and The Overcomers have gone back to basics – to the classic blues/soul/gospel style, where primarily the voice and the lyrics carry the message, without too much technical hoo-ha. They are one of the very few gospel artists who comprehend how to deliver worship music.

They don’t whine to you, they don’t yell at you, they SING…and that’s what I appreciate about “Broken”. This simply means that you get to quietly and comfortably understand the message of putting things in perspective, of healing, of putting back together the pieces, after being ‘broken’ inside and out; and moreover, who to turn to, in wanting to achieve that goal.

Listen and be blessed. Whenever you need to gather your thoughts, quiet your concerns and be taken you to a place of worship, you can find it in “Broken”. Your spirit will be filled as you listen to, ponder, and embrace the words and music; while you sing along with Anthony Nelson and The Overcomers.
