Composer Juan Sánchez, started taking piano lessons at the conservatoire at only 14 years old. During the 80’s and 90’s he played keyboards with different bands, before going on to study music and technology in London. In 1999, he started to make instrumental ambient electronic music, and since then he has been creating music for multimedia and sound libraries for music producers. But Juan dreamed of becoming a professional pianist, all he lacked was the confidence to pursue his dream. However, soon he discovered artists such as Max Richter and Ludovico Einaudi, as well as a handful of neo classical composers, who inspired him to continue on his path. In March 2019, he released the single “Rebirth” to certified acclaim, which helped to fuel his fire.

Juan Sánchez then went on to complete a 9 track album of the same title. “Rebirth” is as breathtakingly beautiful and poignantly polarized as one would expect from a fine classical talent. The album is filled with piano compositions that capture the attention and emotions of listeners. Sánchez composer who can often be placed into the minimalist movement.

His main choice for an instrument, the piano, serves as the backbone for his songs, acting as the prominent foundation layer; however, other instruments and effects can be heard throughout his creations on occasion as well on this recording.

“Rebirth” is Juan Sánchez playing out his ambitions; everything is cohesive and emotionally riveting, making for an album of compositions that can rival some of the best from the genre in recent years in the piano movement.

Take for instance the opening title track, “Rebirth” encircling chords ebb and flow throughout the piece; all the while, listeners are swept away into the creation, their emotions rising and falling with each gentle build and release. Moments like this showcase the composer’s peak of skill and ability on this record; what’s more, this is only the first song of the album, and more moments like this are to follow.

Whether it’s the conveyed beauty that comes with the wistfulness of “Heading to Dreamland” or the subtle feelings of hope that gradually build the musical images in “Peaceful Places”, Juan Sánchez’s talent of tying emotions to musical compositions cannot be denied.

A constant yet light rotation of chords on “Beautiful Rose” (Solo Piano) is joined expectedly by the melody, creating a heightened feel of harmony and subsequent beauty. The evocative clarity of Sánchez’s music is perfectly forged on the piano and strings arrangement of “Arctic Solitude”.

Fluid, slow-burning and haunting at times, “Silent Tears” slowly blooms with a resonating and repeating piano melody. This is music expressly designed for you to lose yourself in. All throughout this album, Juan Sánchez’s compositions are linear, questing, and sweet on the ear. He exudes delicacy and dynamism, consciously staying away from harsh melodies and almost always employs elegant musical articulation. The listener will leave “Rebirth” with a feeling of understanding that grows and expands with subsequent listening.
